MechMaxx FW8800 8800lb 3-Point Hitch Forestry Logging Winch for 30–50HP Tractors

Tested out on a few trees so far and it works great. Seems solid built, hard to beat for the price. Definitely will save time and labor getting trees cleaned up and processed.

Have thoroughly enjoyed this machine, it is a beast! In this pull, the cedar has been cut at the bottom but the top is held captive by two oaks. I was able to pull it out without damaging the oaks! The FW8800 is a very much needed tool in our farm tool box!

I have wanted a pto forestry log winch for some time now but could never justify the cost for the amount of tree work I do annually. The purchase price was very reasonable, I was able to pick it up at my local shipping terminal on my schedule and assembly was straight forward. Works as advertised, no frills just works. Saves a lot of labor and time without having to jockey the tractor around to get close enough to the log. Wish I had one of these 30 years ago. This product is robust enough for light commercial work with a bit of common sense. Thanks Mechmaxx!

The Mechmaxx forestry logging winch is well built and rugged. The strong and extra long cable extends your reach to retrieve logs that are hard to get. It also is a very nice ballast for snow removal or loader work. Unit comes nearly fully assembled and greased, ready for work. I did have to shorten the included PTO shaft to fit my tractor. The 3 point hitch is not compatible with my match quick hitch unfortunately despite what the product literature states. The operator manual is very brief and assumes you already know how to use the winch. More info on first time use and maintenance would be appreciated. Overall a great value for the price.

So far I am very happy with this winch, pulling tops out of my gullies. Plan on pulling some logs out for milling too!

I have needed a skidder but could not justify the cost, now with storm clean up I pulled the trigger. Don't let the price fool you. This skidder has plenty of pulling power pulled 24"x 20' log like it was nothing. The flat screen guard is perfect to take all the tools including chain saw to the woods with you. Used it to pull some dead pines, you have more control then when you just pull with a tractor. This is my third purchase from Mech Maxx so far everything has gone smooth, over built and worked better than expected

The packaging wtely as heavy duty steel, and the unit arrived undamaged. I was impressed that the 200 ft cable (the longest in class) was completely greased when it arrived. The construction is HEAVY duty, with 1/2 in steel in places. The 8800 lb capacity is also best in class (for price). After assembly, the winch was easy to use and very effective on large logs.

Of note, the winch comes with a PTO shaft; this was unclear to me before ordering, and a nice surprise. For me, VALUE equals quality divided by price; if the quality is higher OR the price is lower, then VALUE goes up. The quality is 8/10 and the price is 10/10 when I compare to other models in this class of winch; longest cable, highest weight capacity, and lowest price with VERY GOOD construction. I've ordered three large machines from MechMaxx and the customer service has been GREAT.

Love the winch….unpacked the unit and assembled it easily. Have pulled 20 or so large tree with no problems (size 30 inch diameter and 30 ft long. Great buy! I did have to get a longer top link to fit my tractor.

I needed an affordable winch system for hauling larger logs out of the brush. There ain't too many level places on the property, and I can't just lift and carry wider objects with the loader through the narrow trails. That's where the winch/hauling system helps. It is the right tool for the job on hilly terrain, especially for keeping the majority of the log off the ground when hauling.

All the used ones I looked at were still too expensive for my budget. The Mechmaxx FW8800 was a good, affordable option for me. I've used it for a couple weeks now, and it has held up well.

The winch effortlessly pulls heavy logs out of the brush, and I have winched a good number of large pine logs out of some very uneven ground and a tangled mess of vines and bushes (photo 4). Then I hauled them up a narrow trail on a steep hill (photo 1 from my rear camera on the tractor, attached to the FW8800 via a magnet). I also have winched out and hauled some heavier red oak and a 24' long pine beam (photo 3).

In my case, since I don't yet have a bunch of cables or chokers to put on the logs, I use a combination of chains and a military surplus cable sling with 6 cable legs/hooks on it (photo 2) and it has worked well.

The only issues I've had with it so far are minor and have workarounds:
Mounting and dismounting the implement. Given my uneven ground the small support leg doesn't seem to go down far enough to support the hitch side, so it wants to lean. I put a piece of lumber under the leg to extend it to the ground, but it'd be nice if it had an option to extend a bit further.
Looking towards the tractor, the link arm hitch pin on the left side is also difficult to get into place because the clutch arm gets in the way.

Feature recommendation: Some manufacturers have a 2" hitch receiver on the back. That'd be nice to have.

If you live in a hilly, forested area like me, you can't go wrong with getting this for your tractor. It'll make managing the trees a lot easier.

Received the winch and uncrated the product. No damage to the unit during shipping. Assembled the winch (easy process) . Hooked the winch up to my tractor had to use a long top link for connecting. Or could have shortened the PTO shaft by cutting off the spine. The first tree pull test was over a steep embankment. The tree was 25’ long and 15 inch diameter. The winch made the pull with no problem. Awesome machine.
